Objective
The “Revitalization of the traditional dance Jogéd Pingitan" is a project focused on reviving and revitalizing the one of the popular social dances in Bali, in particular the unique style of Jogéd at Sebali Village, Gianyar. Jogéd features a somewhat free, agile, and dynamic movement pattern, inspired by both the légong and kakebyaran dances, and is performed in an improvisational style. Typically, it is performed after the harvest season, on festive occasions, and on other significant days. The Jogéd dance is a partnered performance involving both maleand female dancers and encouraging audience participation.
Revitalizing Jogéd Pingitan, serves a multitude of purposes and has far-reaching benefits. As part of Bali’s cultural heritage, revitalizing it ensures its preservation for future generations, fostering a sense of cultural identity and pride among the youth. This not only counterbalances the influence of globalized culture but also provides an engaging platform for cultural education. Beyond being a performance art, Jogéd Pingitan also encourages community engagement, fostering social cohesion through audience participation. This traditional dance also bolsters Bali’s cultural tourism, contributing to local economies by enhancing its cultural appeal.
Moreover, the revitalization process provides an avenue for the younger generation to nurture their artistic skills, with the improvisational nature of the dance encouraging creativity and personal development.
