Restoring performing arts in Kesidan, a 1,000-year-old Balinese village
MISSION:
This project centers around cultural preservation and education, with the goal of creating new opportunities in the village of Kedisan. Quantum Temple intends to strengthen and support Bali's classical music, theatre and artistic traditions in Kedisan through collaborating with Sanggar Dibia Rasa, a group of performing artists who work across various traditional arts. Quantum Temple will empower a youth development program, which focuses on the creation of a functional orchestra and the implementation of expert tutorials. This project also aims to create an online booking system for Quantum Temple members to attend rehearsals and performances – making these cultural traditions more accessible to visitors.

The village of Kedisan, in southern Bali, is considered a cultural tourism destination. Its origins are noted in royal inscriptions from the 12th Century and it boasts a reputation as a village for performing arts, drawing international visitors who are interested in history and culture. There is a huge opportunity to leverage the existing interest in Kedisan by creating more cultural experiences for visitors, which will bring greater prosperity into the village.
This project will provide immediate support for Sanggar Dibia Rasa, an umbrella organization of performing artists in the village. The artists include gamelan selonding and gender wayang musicians, wayang kulit puppet masters and dancers. Quantum Temple aims to empower Sanggar Dibia Rasa to create a functional orchestra, purchase an array of costumes for performances, and offer weekly tutorials by expert instructors to the members in the group.
Beyond supporting the development of the performing artists, Quantum Temple will also facilitate the creation of an online booking system. This will present an opportunity for Quantum Temple members to attend rehearsals and performances put on by Sanggar Dibia Rasa, and be the first to experience this unique cultural immersion.
