Equipping Balinese youth with knowledge & digital skills to promote Pura Tirta Empul, a Hindu temple
MISSION:
This project aims to equip Balinese youth with digital skills to promote responsible tourism for the Pura Tirta Empul temple. This youth empowerment program, in partnership with Institut Teknologi Dan Bisnis STIKOM BALI, will train up to 30 people, aged 17–25, in contemporary digital marketing, social media management and online communications strategies. Quantum Temple will also collaborate with older members of the community, who will conduct interactive workshops and storytelling sessions that educate the youth on the temple’s cultural significance. This knowledge transmission will directly impact cultural and tourism regeneration, as youth members gain crucial expertise and become ambassadors for their cultural heritage.
PROJECT SUMMARY:
Pura Tirta Empul is a Hindu temple that has been actively used for purification rituals since 926 A.D. Meaning 'Holy Spring' in Balinese, Tirta Empul was built for Vishnu, the Hindu God of Water. Today, this temple, near to Tampaksiring, Bali draws people from across the globe to experience ritual purification for the mind, body and spirit. But there is a missed opportunity to reach more travelers, while promoting responsible tourism and unique cultural immersions.
In order to achieve this, Quantum Temple aims to empower the temple elders and local youth. While the temple’s leadership lacks digital expertise to connect to a global audience and attract responsible tourists, the local youth are digital savvy but disconnected from their cultural heritage. Quantum Temple aims to empower a knowledge transmission from the community elders to the youth, while equipping the digitally-minded generation with skills that enable them to promote Pura Tirta Empul. In partnership with Institut Teknologi Dan Bisnis STIKOM BALI, an education in digital literacy will include learning how to manage social media platforms to promote responsible tourism through effective messaging. The vision is for the youth to encourage tourists to be respectful towards the temple, environment and local communities.
This project serves as an intergenerational bridge, fostering a sense of community solidarity and cohesion as two generations come together to share and celebrate their cultural heritage. Both groups of people are empowered through this project – with the elders passing on their knowledge to the local youth who are prepared for future leadership roles in managing and promoting Pura Tirta Empul.
